    Inspiring Quotes :
    HAVE MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS

    - "No day is wasted in which I touch another person's life
in any positive, meaningful way. And so it is that I enrich
my days by giving something of myself whether through a
warm smile, a kind word, a sympathetic ear, a gentle
embrace, or a helping hand." ~
    David L. Weatherford

What's more important than making a meaningful connection
with another? Dalai Lama says, "Old friends pass away, new
friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new
day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful:
a meaningful friend - or a meaningful day."

    - "When we seek for connection, we restore the world
to wholeness. Our seemingly separate lives become
meaningful as we discover how truly necessary
    we are to each other."~
    Margaret Wheatley

In the real world, relationships include fights, trust,
faith, tears, pain, arguments, patience, secrets, jealousy
and love. For relationships to be meaningful we learn from
all those experiences, move forward and have more empathy,
deeper understanding and truer compassion. Whether romantic,
familial, among friends or at work, that's love.

    - "The only ones among you who will be really happy
are those who have sought and found how to serve...
The purpose of human life is to serve and to show
compassion and the will to help others." ~
    Albert Schweitzer

Love, and loving service to our fellows, connects us
so we do not live isolated lives and life becomes meaningful.
Jesus once said that the care we offer to even the smallest
child or the weakest old man is received as if it were offered
to God. When societies and governments are no longer at the
loving service of all people, then arrogance and exploitation
risk snuffing out true human development and fulfillment.
Only by loving and serving others, even with the simplest
of gestures, will humanity regain a sense of happiness and hope.

    Inspiring Quotes :
    LIFE TRANSITION: SELF-DIRECTED EDUCATION

    - "Formal education will make you a living;
    self-education will make you a fortune." ~
    Jim Rohn

Education may be about cramming our minds with a syllabus
in order to become a viable employee, a cog in the machine, but
life-long self-directed education (that includes personal development)
is the opposite... it's about unlearning all of that; about opening
to new possibilities; about releasing our judgments, assumptions
and prejudices; about nurturing our creative flame. An educational
system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches people how to make a
living but doesn't teach them how to make a life. Plutarch:
"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled."

    - "Crucial to science education is hands-on involvement:
showing, not just telling; real experiments and field
trips and not just virtual reality."~
    Martin Rees

Same for all kinds of education, and our own,
self-directed education every day of our lives.
When life is abstract, just viewed from a distance,
it's not real enough to inspire a commitment,
not personal enough to make us want to get involved.

    - "Education is the most powerful weapon
which you can use to change the world." ~
    Nelson Mandela

And it starts at home - first educate ourselves.
As Jack Welch says, "Change before you have to."
And Albert Einstein, who knew a thing or two...
"The world as we have created it is a process of
our thinking. It cannot be changed without
    changing our thinking."

    - "Any fool can know. The point is to understand." ~
    Albert Einstein

We all know the value of education. The mind is
naturally curious and we want to explore and find
out why. The knowledge we gain from learning and
research that interests us forms the basis for discovery,
invention and career expertise. Albert Einstein also
pointed out, "Imagination is more important than
knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles
the world." But imagination builds from a wide
knowledge base, covering many topics and specialities,
so new possibilities become apparent and creativity
breaks new bounds. Education should be focused on
discovery and understanding, not cramming facts
immediately to be misinterpreted, distorted or forgotten.

    - "Crucial to science education is hands-on involvement:
showing, not just telling; real experiments and field trips
and not just virtual reality." ~ ~
    Martin Rees

Same for all kinds of education, and our own,
self-directed education every day of our lives.
When life is abstract, just viewed from a distance,
it's not real enough to inspire a commitment,
not personal enough to make us want to get
involved. "A mind once stretched by a new
idea never regains its original dimensions."

    - "Whoever doesn't know the past must have
little understanding of the present and
no vision for the future." ~
    Joseph S. Raymond

Hence the value of wide, open-ended education
for liberation - and the negative power of distorting
evidence and rewriting history to create suppression.
As Yeats said, "Education is not filling a bucket,
but lighting a fire." By the time we leave school we
should in particular have learned just how much we
don't know, and be inspired with a lifelong desire to
know it, which can be fulfilled only by ongoing
    self-directed education.

    - ~
